The sixth biennial CleanEnviro Summit Singapore (CESG) organised by Singapore's National Environment Agency in conjunction with Singapore International Water Week 2024 was held from 19 to 21 June 2024. Themed ‘Action for a Sustainable and Clean Environment’, it was a global platform where thought leaders, industry captains and policymakers convened to explore solutions for a sustainable and clean environment. The key focus areas of the 2024 edition were:

  • Climate Action
  • Resource Circularity
  • Public Hygiene

Key Highlights from CESG 2024


Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-Charge of Trade Relations, delivered the opening address on 19 June 2024. She emphasised the urgent need for global climate action, given extreme weather patterns and rising sea levels, and highlighted Singapore's efforts in building a more sustainable and climate-resilient future. As part of Singapore's waste management efforts, she announced a Request for Information for alternative disposal technologies. Additionally, she launched the Singapore Water Centre, a collaboration with the World Bank Group, to drive global innovations in water policy and technology.

 


Over 30,000 attendees from more than 95 countries and regions gathered over the three-day period of CESG 2024 and SIWW 2024. The event featured the Sustainability Summit, Sustainability and Clean Environment Convention, Youth Environment Leaders Immersion Programme, Environment Expo, and Site Visits to NEA facilities. These experiences offered participants valuable insights in enabling a sustainable and clean environment.

Environment Expo Highlights


 

The CESG Environment Expo 2024 featured three dynamic areas: the LaunchPad, Experiential Zone, and Landing Zone.

The LaunchPad highlighted a diverse range of pitches, serving as a platform for emerging talents and innovative ideas. At the Experiential Zone, 17 companies showcased hands-on demonstrations, enabling attendees to engage directly with cutting-edge technologies and solutions. Additionally, the newly introduced Landing Zone this year hosted forums, seminars, workshops, and master classes, fostering collaborative learning and the exchange of innovative ideas.

 

Conference Highlights

 

Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment, Dr. Amy Khor, delivered the welcome address at the CESG 2024 Sustainability Summit on 19 June. She emphasised the theme "Towards a Net Zero City," highlighting Singapore's efforts to peak emissions before 2030 and achieve net zero by 2050, with a focus on managing priority waste streams – e-waste, packaging waste, and food waste. Dr. Khor expressed hope that the insights shared would catalyse sustainable change across cities.

 

 

The Sustainability and Clean Environment Convention, held on 20 and 21 June 2024, featured four tracks: "Climate Leadership: Pathways to Action and Innovation" on reducing emissions and transitioning to renewable energy; "Closing the Loop: Innovations for Better Resource Circularity" on waste management and resource circularity; "Advancing Public Hygiene Practices" on robotic cleaning technology and outcome-based contracts; and "Winning the War: Sustainable Solutions for Smart Pest Management" on climate change's impact on pest control and sustainable innovations.
