Shintaro Ito

Mr. Ito was appointed Minister of the Environment and Minister of State for Nuclear Emergency Preparedness in September 2023. 

He was born in 1953, in Tokyo. He graduated from the Graduate School of Law at Keio University. He also graduated from Graduate school of Arts and Sciences at Harvard University. He was first elected to the House of Representatives, Miyagi District 4 in 2001, and then served as Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chair of Committee on Environment at House of Representatives, Chair of Special Committee on Reconstruction after Great EAST Japan Earthquake at House of Representatives.
